Early Teen Driver Service

Getting your New Jersey permit at 16 can feel overwhelming, but Safe Roads makes the process straightforward. From the paperwork to the mandatory 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving, we take care of the details so you and your teen can focus on learning to drive safely and confidently.

The full service includes both the permit application process and the state-required 6 hours of driving lessons with an MVC-certified instructor.

Here’s what families can expect step by step:

• Permit Paperwork & Processing
  We’ll guide you through the parent consent forms, review all required documents (like the 6 Points of ID and proof of address), and make sure everything is submitted correctly. Only a licensed driving school can request a permit for a 16-year-old, so our instructors handle this directly with the MVC.

• Knowledge & Vision Test Scheduling
  Once the paperwork is approved, we help you schedule the knowledge and vision tests at your MVC location. We’ll walk you through what to expect and provide prep resources so your teen feels ready.

• Six Hours of Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
  These lessons are more than just practice laps—they’re designed to build real confidence and road awareness. Each session begins with an assessment of your teen’s current comfort level, and then we cover all the essential skills:

  • Parallel parking, K-turns, and reverse driving

  • Understanding and using mirrors, signals, and dashboard gauges

  • Smooth braking, acceleration, and safe following distances

  • City driving with intersections, roundabouts, and curves

  • Highway practice with merging, lane changes, and maintaining proper speed

  • practice habits to anticipate and react safely in traffic

• Permit Validation
  Once the 6-hour requirement is completed, we certify the permit so your teen can legally begin supervised driving. From there, they’ll be on the path toward their probationary license.

Every lesson includes the convenience of pick-up and drop-off within Jersey City. If you’re outside the city, you can easily meet us at the Journal Square PATH Station.
